At the Wednesday, Aug. 26 Board of Education meeting, the Board accepted Superintendent Peggy O’Shea’s intention to retire at the end of the 2026-27 school year. O’Shea, who has served the Cohoes School District for the last 31 years, will remain in her role through June 30, 2027, ensuring a full year of continued leadership and a thoughtful transition.
Reflecting on her time in the district, O’Shea said serving the Cohoes community has been the greatest honor of her life.
“Over the last three decades, we have celebrated countless achievements and worked through challenges together,” O’Shea said. “I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished on behalf of our students, faculty, staff, and families. While I am looking ahead to this next chapter, my commitment to Cohoes remains unwavering through my final day.”
Over the next year, O’Shea will continue to lead the district as the Board of Education begins the process of selecting the district’s next superintendent. The board has started discussing the search process and will share additional information with the community as plans progress.
