Custodian – Full-time

Required knowledge, skills and abilities: Good knowledge of building cleaning and grounds maintenance practices, supplies and equipment. Ability to use said supplies and equipment safely, economically and efficiently. Some knowledge of small engine maintenance, plumbing, electricity and carpentry. Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions. Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Acceptable Experience and Training: One year of experience in building cleaning and maintenance activities or in one of the standard building trades and completion of a standard grade school course; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Schedule: 12-month work year (6:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.)

Location: Abram Lansing Elementary School

Salary: As per CSEA contract

Part-time School Safety Officer (10-month work year)

Full performance knowledges, skills, abilities and personal characteristics: Working knowledge of the practices and procedures necessary to maintain order and insure the protection of life and the security of buildings, grounds and equipment, working knowledge of school district rules and regulations; ability to exercise sound judgment in carrying out duties; ability to maintain good relationships with students and faculty; promotes positive interactions with students to encourage good behavior and decision making; ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions; good powers of observation; courtesy and tact; ability to prepare brief written communications; ability to communicate information orally and by written report; ability to use self-defense, restraint techniques and security equipment as necessary, physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position; honesty and integrity; good judgment; emotional maturity; courage; reliability.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree and two (2) years of experience as a municipal, state or military police officer or correction officer or other equivalent experience; or
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a comparable diploma, and three (3) years of experience as a municipal, state or military police officer or correction officer or other equivalent experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience as described above.

Special requirements for appointment in school district:

Candidates must possess a valid New York State Driver’s license at the time of appointment, and must maintain such license throughout the tenure of employment.

Cleaner – Full-time

Required knowledge, skills and abilities: Some knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to get along well with others; ability to read and write; thoroughness, cleanliness; Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. Snow removal is required.

Acceptable experience and training: Some experience in building cleaning work is desirable.

Location: Primary location is Cohoes High School, other locations as needed

Schedule: 12-month work year (2:30 pm – 10:00 pm)

Salary: Per the current CSEA contract

Substitute Cleaners

Part-time and substitute work for cleaning in school buildings. Complete a non-instructional staff application and submit to Human Resources at the above address. Substitute cleaners make $13.50 an hour and are typically called on an as-needed basis.

Substitute Maintenance Mechanic

Part-time and substitute work for maintenance mechanic in school buildings. Complete a non-instructional staff application and submit to Human Resources at the above address. Substitute maintenance mechanics are typically called on an as-needed basis.

Part-time Teacher Aides

Complete a Non-Instructional Staff Application and the civil service application. Submit them to HR for immediate consideration. Part-time aides are paid $10.50 an hour and work approximately 3.75 hours/day (M-F)
