Future Ready Pathways Coordinator

Location: Cohoes High School

Salary: $8,000 (grant-funded)

Job description:

The Future-Ready Pathways Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Smart Transfer Future-Ready Pathways program at Cohoes High School.

Expectations include the following:

  • Coordinate the selection of the 25 students per cohort for admittance into the Future-Ready Pathways program.
  • Serve as a member of the Steering Committee.
  • Work closely with administration, teachers, Career Coordinator, Mentoring Facilitators, and Extended Learning Teachers to ensure success for each student.
  • Establish, plan and monitor a Student Success Plan (SSP) for each FRP student mapping out college courses/credits and graduation requirements.
  • Collaborate with teachers, Extended Learning Teachers and support staff to ascertain students’ academic progress and social-emotional needs. Arrange support when needed. Ensure student attendance at ELT sessions.
  • Coordinate course offerings and adjunct approvals with HVCC and UAlbany.
  • Assist students with choosing one of four Future-Ready Pathways at the end of sophomore year.
  • Collaborate with the Mentoring Facilitators and Career Coordinator to plan related events ie. mentoring partner sessions, career exploration sessions, schedule/course planning.
  • Work closely with the Mentoring Facilitator to arrange mentor-mentee meetings.
  • Work closely with the Career Coordinator and Mentoring Facilitators to help educate students on career exploration by linking the Future-Ready students with business/industry representatives in on-site field trips, guest speaker presentations, job shadowing and internship experiences.
  • Work collaboratively to promote student learning of career-ready knowledge and skills in the areas of communication, resume writing, interviewing techniques, and presenting.
  • Collaborate with industry partners and high school teachers to promote project based learning (PBL) that includes authentic learning and discovery within the four identified Future-Ready Pathways.
  • Act as the point of contact for classroom teachers, students and parents.
  • Assist students in strengthening their time management and study skills to better handle the rigors of college level coursework.
  • Collect data and other measures to gauge student performance as required by the grant.
  • Create forms and other paperwork needed to coordinate the program.
  • Coordinate the summer programming for the students and be available to provide support during the summer months at per diem.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the superintendent of schools.

The Career Mentoring Facilitator will oversee the training, coordination, and support of both mentors and mentees for the members of the Class of 2021 involved in the Smart Transfer Future-Ready Pathways program at Cohoes High School.

Expectations include the following:

  • Serve on the selection committee with the Cohoes City School District team (administration, counselors and teachers) to select the 25 students from the cohort who will be involved in the Future-Ready Pathways program.
  • Serve as a member of the Steering Committee.
  • Recruit mentors from district staff and community members who agree to serve as a mentor for the next four years.
  • Facilitate the coordination of fingerprinting with the New York State Mentoring Program to ensure all mentors are vetted and approved.
  • Coordinate with the New York State Mentoring Program to plan trainings and professional development for mentors.
  • Gain insight into students’ backgrounds and aspirations to carefully match approved mentors with the students.
  • Serve as point of contact for mentors, district staff, students, and the New York State Mentoring Program.
  • Plan introductory and ongoing activities/meetings with the mentor/mentee.
  • Create forms and other paperwork needed to coordinate the program.
  • Create expectation guide for all mentors.
  • Coordinate special events and meetings.
  • Collect data and other measures to gauge program performance as required by the grant.
  • Work closely with building and district administration.
  • Work closely with the Extended Learning Teachers, Career Coordinator and Future-Ready Pathways Coordinator.
  • Collaborate with other district mentoring coordinators/facilitators.
  • Manage day-to-day communications with teachers, counselors, etc.
  • Be available to provide support to both students and mentors during the summer months paid per diem.

FRP Career Coordinator

Job description:

The Career Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating career development services for all students involved in the Smart Transfer Future-Ready Pathways program at Cohoes High School. The Coordinator will establish and maintain business partnerships that support the four Future-Ready Pathways: Computers, Engineering and Technology; Health Sciences and Human Services;  Early Childhood and Adolescent Teacher Education; and Business and Communications. The Career Coordinator, in collaboration with the Career Mentoring Facilitators and the Future Ready Pathways Coordinator, will fulfill the expectation of the Smart Transfer grant by linking the Future-Ready students with business/industry representatives in on-site field trips, guest speaker presentations, job shadowing and internship experiences.  Future-Ready students will be placed in a Future-Ready Pathway internship for five hours during the second year in the program, ten hours in the third year and fifteen hours in the fourth year. The Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring appropriate placements for students and supporting both students and businesses to ensure a model of success.

Expectations include the following:

  • Serve on the selection committee with the Cohoes City School District team (administration, counselors and teachers) to select the 25 students per cohort who will be involved in the Future-Ready Pathways program.
  • Act as the point of contact and initiator for establishing partnerships with local business/industry representatives.
  • Promote student learning of career-ready knowledge and skills in the areas of communication, resume writing, interviewing techniques, and presenting.
  • Work closely with the Future-Ready Coordinator to utilize Naviance and career interest surveys to help guide students in choosing their Pathway.
