We are pleased to welcome Larissa Fremont as our Director of Special Programs. Ms. Fremont was approved by the Cohoes Board of Education on October 22 and will begin her new role on November 24, 2025. She succeeds Erin Hill who is retiring after many years of dedicated service to the district.

Ms. Fremont joins us with more than 15 years of experience in special education. Most recently, she served as Director of Special Education in the Brittonkill and Hoosic Valley school districts. She has a deep understanding of special education regulations and best practices and a strong belief in the power of collaboration to help students thrive. Her knowledge, skills and passion for supporting students, families, and staff will make her an excellent addition to our administrative team.
Ms. Fremont received her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Studies from Binghamton University in 2004. She went on to earn a master’s degree in communication sciences and disorders from The College of St. Rose in 2007 and a Certification in Advanced Study in Educational Leadership in 2023 from SUNY Plattsburgh.
A graduate of Cohoes High School, Ms. Fremont is looking forward to returning in this full-circle moment. “I’m beyond excited to return to my hometown and serve as the new Director of Special Programs for the Cohoes City School District,” she said. “It’s an honor to give back to the community that helped shape who I am, and to support the next generation of Cohoes students in reaching their full potential.”
Superintendent Peggy O’Shea agreed. “Larissa’s leadership will build on our strong foundation and continue to create learning experiences that empower and equip every student to reach their fullest potential, as they strive successfully into their future.”
