After years of hard work, dedication and perseverance, seniors Hailey Van Bramer, Oliver Heaphy and Cade Wilson have earned the highest academic honors in the Class of 2026, being named valedictorian, salutatorian and honorable mention, respectively.
“Achieving this level of academic excellence requires immense discipline, but what truly defines our top three honor graduates is their impact on our school community,” said CHS Principal Dr. Laura Tarlo. “They have led by example, demonstrating that true success is built on perseverance, kindness, and a commitment to excellence. It has been an honor watching them grow, and they leave a lasting legacy at CHS.”
Valedictorian – Hailey Van Bramer
With a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 100.70, Hailey Van Bramer has earned the distinction of valedictorian for this year’s graduating class.
This fall, Hailey will attend University of South Carolina, where she plans to major in biological sciences on the pre-health track.
Throughout her time at CHS, Hailey stood out as a student leader. She served as class president, vice president of the National Honor Society, a HOBY NY East Youth Leader, and a Real Kids Wear Pink ambassador. In addition to her academic and leadership accomplishments, she was a member of the varsity soccer and softball teams.
Hailey credits both her parents and teachers for encouraging her to pursue excellence and reach her full potential.
“I want to give credit to both my parents and the teachers who believed in me and told me to never sell myself short, but to strive to be the best version of myself I could possibly be.”
She reflects on her journey with a quote from Roy T. Bennett: “How much you can learn when you fail determines how far you will go in achieving your goals.”
Salutatorian – Oliver Heaphy
Oliver Heaphy earns the second spot as this year’s salutatorian, with a GPA of 100.27.
He is also heading to University of South Carolina to major in neuroscience. Following his undergraduate studies, he intends to continue his education by pursuing a graduate degree.
Oliver is enrolled in the Future Ready Pathways program and will graduate with 66 college credits. He was actively involved in student life and was a part of Character Education and Yoga Club and a member of the National Honor Society. He also competed in cross-country and participated on the e-Sports team for a season. Oliver received both the New York Attorney General Triple “C” award and the New York State Comptroller award.
“It is an incredible honor to be named the Salutatorian for the Class of 2026, and I want to extend a huge congratulations to the entire class for their hard work,” said Oliver. “Getting here today is a reflection of all the late nights and dedication that we survived together. I am deeply thankful to God, my parents, family, and friends for their endless guidance and support. I would also like to thank all of my teachers, especially Mrs. DeStefano and Mrs. Ball, for always encouraging me. I am so excited to end my high school career with this honor, reminding us all of the words of Nelson Mandela: “It always seems impossible until it’s done.”
Honorable Mention – Cade Wilson
Rounding out the top students is Cade Wilson, who earns the distinction of Honorable Mention with a GPA of 99.11.
Cade plans to attend Hudson Valley Community College this fall, where he will begin his journey toward becoming a middle school math teacher.
His strong academic record, commitment to learning and dedication to his future goals have earned him a place among the Class of 2026’s highest-achieving students.
