‘Intent to play’ form available for Fall 2 season

As we continue to monitor the COVID metrics and conditions involved in allowing higher-risk sports to proceed, we are beginning preparations for the upcoming “Fall 2” season, set to run from Mar. 7 to May 1.

The first step is having our student-athletes fill out an intent to play form, which will be used to gauge interest level in Fall 2 sports – cross country, football, cheer (football), soccer and volleyball.

Intent to play form for Fall 2 season

As you may know, higher risk sports like football and volleyball are on hold until certain requirements established by the Albany County Department of Health are met. Right now, we don’t know exactly what levels and sports will be offered in the Fall 2 season because of several variables:

  • High risk sports that will be approved to play in Fall 2 by the Albany County DOH, Section 2, the Colonial Council, and the Cohoes City School District.
  • The ability to follow health and safety protocols while offering multiple sports or levels.
  • The number of teams participating at the level or sport in our league and section.
  • The number of interested participants we have to field a team.

With these factors in mind, it is important to complete the intent to play form so we can make informed decisions for the “Fall 2” season. The intent to play will be open from Feb. 3 to Feb. 15.

Please note: The Intent to Participate Form IS NOT the final registration form for participation in interscholastic athletics. This is the first step in the registration process. New York State law requires that all school districts review a student’s health profile within 30 days of the start of the season, therefore the final step to register for participation in interscholastic athletics will simply require you to log back into your FamilyID account no more than 30 days prior to the beginning of the upcoming season and provide additional required information via the Confirmation of Participation Form.

Physicals

The NYSED has extended the validity of school sport physicals through the end of the 2021 school year.  Any student-athlete who had a physical in the 2018-19 or 2019-20 sport seasons can get medically cleared for sports in 2020-2021 with an updated Health History form to be completed on Family ID within 30 days of the start of the season.  Any student-athlete who did not have a sport physical during that time frame MUST obtain a new one.
