Partnership with TSL announced for before- and after-care

Mr. Bird playing connect fourCohoes school leaders announced on Tuesday a partnership with TSL Adventures to operate before- and after-care programs at the district’s three elementary schools. The programs had been run by the Cohoes Community Center, which closed abruptly on Friday, October 26.

“While this transition is happening under somewhat unfortunate circumstances, we feel fortunate to get a new program up and running quickly with an agency that was highly recommended and has successful programs in other districts,” Cohoes Superintendent Jennifer Spring said.

TSL employees will begin staffing the program on Monday, November 5.

“We’re ecstatic. It’s a great opportunity for us,” said TSL founder Tom Styles. “We empathize with families who lost that connection with the Community Center, but we’re excited to bring our program to Cohoes.”

Styles previously worked for the Community Center’s summer program from 2000 to 2002.

“I brought my kids there to swim when they were little,” Styles said. “So we have fond memories in Cohoes. It’s just a great, tight-knit community.”

District administrators, secretaries, students, parents, teachers, board members, and city council members have volunteered to staff the before- and after-care program until the end of the week.

“It’s been amazing to see everyone step in and help,” Spring said.

An open house with TSL founders and staff members will be held at 7 p.m. at Abram Lansing Elementary School on Monday, November 5. Families with children in the program are encouraged to attend.
