At last night’s meeting, the Cohoes Board of Education approved the recommendation of Darnell Douglas for the position of assistant principal of the Cohoes High School beginning September 1.
Mr. Douglas comes to us from Bethlehem Central School District, where he served as a high school counselor for 10 years. Prior to that, he served as counselor at the Berne-Knox-Westerlo Secondary School.

He received his Bachelor’s of Arts in Mass Communication/Media Studies from Manhattan College and his Master’s in School Counseling from Russell Sage College in 2013. He is currently enrolled at Sage College, working toward his Advanced Certification in Instructional Leadership.
“I am committed to advancing in my career and am confident in my ability to serve as a passionate advocate for students and a positive role model for staff,” said Mr. Douglas. “I view every challenge as an opportunity for growth and believe my experiences have prepared me well for this exciting next step. I am eager to contribute to the Cohoes school community and to continue learning through this new role.”
Cohoes High School Principal Laura Tarlo is looking forward to working alongside Mr. Douglas.
“Mr. Douglas has been a key leader in restorative practice initiatives, guiding professional development in conflict resolution and culturally inclusive curriculum,” said CHS Principal Laura Tarlo. “His leadership roles have included coordinating school culture initiatives, spearheading peer mentoring programs, and leading equity committees. His strong communication, student-centered philosophy, and collaborative spirit will be a tremendous asset to the Cohoes High School community.”
