Cohoes athletes will be sporting some fresh uniforms this spring thanks to one of the NFL’s biggest stars.
District leaders were notified last week that they’d won a $2,720 grant from the J.J. Watt Foundation. The money will be used to purchase new uniforms for our modified baseball and softball teams, as the grant specifies that funds be used to benefit athletic programs for students in grades six to eight.
“We’re excited,” said Athletic Director Jeff Huneau. “They’re usually the last to get uniforms as they get handed down.”
The Under Armour brand uniforms have already been ordered and are expected to arrive in about two weeks.
“If you look good, you feel good and play good,” Huneau said. “It elicits pride. I want our kids to have pride in their school and our athletic programs.”
From the grant-approval letter: The Justin J. Watt Foundation is providing this funding as a means of support for your extracurricular and athletic activities that give children the opportunity to learn the basic character traits of accountability, teamwork, leadership, work ethic and perseverance while in a safe and supervised environment with their peers. We look forward to seeing the impact this program will make in the lives of the children.
