“The selection of valedictorian and salutatorian is an honored tradition that highlights the academic excellence, despite all odds, in students. It is my honor to recognize Jasmyne Cando, and Caeleigh Schumacher, the 2024-2025 valedictorian and salutatorian respectively,” said Interim Principal Dr. Mark Pitterson. “Both young ladies have earned this year’s honors by steadfastly being two excellent students in all facets of their time here at Cohoes Middle School. Jasmyne and Caeleigh are two amazing young ladies of whom I do expect to hear wonderful things in the future.”

Jasmyne Cando

Jasmyne Cando earned the top spot with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 99.563. She is a three–sport athlete on the volleyball, softball and basketball teams, and is a member of the National Jr. Honor Society. She was accepted into the Future Ready Pathways college program, which begins when she starts her freshman year of high school.

“I am incredibly honored to receive this amazing title of valedictorian, however this achievement didn’t occur overnight. It took years of dedication and the gracious support of several others, not just myself. My friends and teachers have supported me through this, as well as the ever-lasting love and support of my family and best friend. Their gracious assistance allowed me to navigate middle school with much success and little trouble. They taught me so much over the years; lessons that I kept with me and will continue to keep with me in the future. There is not enough thanks in the world to express how indebted I am to these people. All in all, I am overjoyed to be this year’s valedictorian and incredibly proud of this year’s salutatorian as well. Caeleigh Schumacher has been an incredible help as we had a bit of friendly competition constantly pushing each other to be better and better. This is a tremendous achievement and I am so proud of how far we’ve come.”

Caeleigh Schumacher

With a GPA of 97.63, Caeleigh Schumacher has earned the title of salutatorian. She has also been accepted into the Future Ready Pathways program and is a member of the National Junior Honor Society. Caeleigh is also on the Student Council and Ski Club, plays flute in the school band, is in chorus and plays on the school softball team.

“I am very grateful to be able to have this title of salutatorian. This achievement has been one of my biggest so far. This has not been an easy journey. It took years to get where I am today in my education. All of my gratitude goes to my teachers, friends, family and staff at the school. They have taught me things that others couldn’t and helped me through my years at middle school. They have supported me and motivated me to do the best that I can and make the best choices for myself. I am very proud of everyone who helped me and I’m proud of the valedictorian, Jasmyne Cando. Thank you to my family for always pushing me to the best of my abilities and supporting me through my education.”
