A message from Superintendent O’Shea

This message was sent to families and staff via ParentSquare on April 2, 2026.

Dear Cohoes families and caregivers,

I am writing to inform you of the arrest of one of our former teachers, Drake Galarneau, who was assigned to Cohoes High School when he was still employed by the District. Mr. Galarneau was taken into custody last night by the New York State Police and is scheduled to be arraigned in Albany County Court this morning.

On Tuesday, March 24, a report was made to high school principal, Dr. Laura Tarlo, alleging unspecified inappropriate behaviors by Mr. Galarneau toward a student. Dr. Tarlo immediately notified me and made a report to the New York State Police. That same evening, Mr. Galarneau was placed on leave and prohibited from being on school grounds. He submitted his resignation on Wednesday evening.

The New York State Police have been leading the investigation. We want to thank them for their close communication and cooperation during this process.

The District is taking several steps to provide additional support and services for our students and staff as they process this news. Our goal, always, is to provide our children with a safe place to learn and grow.

Anyone with any specific questions or information regarding this matter are strongly encouraged to contact the New York State Police (Troop G). We continue to work closely with both the New York State Police and the Albany County District Attorney’s Office, and we will provide updates to our internal school community as we are able.

I want to acknowledge the hurt and frustration that you may be experiencing at this time. Please contact your child’s principal or me if you have concerns or need support.

Sincerely,

Peggy O’Shea
