District releases reopening plan for 2020-21

Dear Cohoes Families,

On Monday, July 13, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that school districts in New York can follow plans to reopen for in-person schooling in September if COVID-19 infection rates stay at 5% or lower in a given region.

While districts have been instructed to prioritize efforts to return students to in-person instruction, the district is also planning for remote/distance learning as well as a hybrid model that combines in-person instruction and remote learning. Parents will always have the choice to remain in the remote learning model. Earlier today, an in-person instruction “opt out” form was sent to all families.

Our reopening plan was developed collaboratively with a variety of district stakeholders. A district-wide reopening committee began meeting in June. The 43-person committee includes Board of Education members, administrators, faculty, support staff, students, parents, health care providers, and union leaders. Input we received from the committee members, as well as from staff, students and parents in our virtual panel discussions, was invaluable in creating this reopening plan, which prioritizes the health and safety of everyone in our school community.

Given the nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, this plan is subject to change. As that happens and as further details are developed, we will communicate the information to stakeholders as quickly and clearly as possible.

If you have any questions or comments about the plan, please feel free to email feedback@cohoes.org.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
