Cohoes senior Mindy Jin has been nominated for the U.S. Presidential Scholars program, one of the most prestigious student recognition honors in the nation.
Jin is completing her second year in the Game Design and Implementation program through Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical Education. She is one of five career and tech students statewide to be nominated for the Presidential Scholars program.
“These students have shown excellence in their academics as well as their artistic and technical endeavors,” Board of Regents Chancellor Betty A. Rosa said. “As well-rounded students, they serve as role models for all young people. I commend these nominees who will represent New York State during the national selection process.”
Jin has committed to the Rochester Institute of Technology, where she will pursue a degree in game design and development.
“Mindy’s creative qualities and vision are what make her successful in this field,” guidance counselor Lea Miller said. “She is the true essence of perseverance and I expect her to be the name behind a really popular video game someday!”
“I am thrilled to see the nomination of Cohoes High School’s Mindy Jin was put forth as part of an elite group of men and women for the Presidential Scholars program,” Assemblyman John McDonald said. “The prestigious program recognizes the talent and commitment of these future leaders. Mindy’s drive in her academics does not go unnoticed and this honor, in my opinion, is one of many to follow.”
Since 1964, the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars has selected honored scholars annually based on their academic success, artistic excellence, essays, school evaluations and transcripts, as well as evidence of community service, leadership, and demonstrated commitment to high ideals. In 2015, the program was extended to recognize students who demonstrate ability and accomplishment in career and technical education fields.
