Cohoes Board of Education approves new CHS Principal

We are pleased to announce that Kristy Goergen was approved as the new principal at Cohoes High School at last night’s Board of Education meeting. She is set to begin on July 1, 2026.

Ms. Goergen has spent nearly a decade as an administrator. She previously held the position of assistant principal at Draper Middle School in the Mohonaosen Central School District for five years and is in her fifth year a principal of Greenville High School.

She received her Bachelors in Special Education and Elementary Education from Daemen College, Amherst, New York in 2002, followed by her Master’s in Special Education from the University at Albany in 2003. In 2015, she earned her Master’s in Educational Leadership through Canisius College.

Ms. Goergen is excited to join Cohoes and become part of our school community. “I look forward to building relationships with students, staff, and families while contributing in meaningful ways,” she said. “This is an exciting opportunity, and I am eager to get started and support the continued success of the district.”

Superintendent Peggy O’Shea is confident that CHS will continue to grow and thrive under Ms. Goergen’s leadership.

“We are excited to welcome Ms. Goergen to Cohoes High School. Her strong background in instructional leadership, commitment to student success, and experience building positive school communities make her an excellent fit for our district.”

Ms. Goergen will replace Dr. Laura Tarlo, who will begin her role as assistant superintendent of educational services this summer.
