School Safety Staff Leader For the 2025-2026 School Year

Minimum Requirements: This is an opportunity for a current Cohoes City School District School Safety Officer, (“SSO”),  who meets the minimum qualifications for the School Safety Officer position.

(Minimum qualifications for SSO are bachelors degree and 2 years of experience as a municipal, state or military police officer or corrections officer or other equivalent experience OR graduation from high school or possession of a comparable diploma and 3 yrs of experience as a municipal, state or military police officer or corrections officer or other equivalent experience.)

Location: District Wide
Salary: Stipend $4,800

Job Duties for School Safety Staff Leader:

This is an opportunity for a current Cohoes City School District School Safety Officer, (“SSO”),  who meets the minimum qualifications for the School Safety Officer position.

  • School Safety Staff Leader will maintain a schedule and coordinate the scheduling of all School Safety personnel including School Safety Officers and Campus Safety Monitors. 
  • School Safety Staff Leader will assist the Building Principals in the recruiting and interviewing process for new SSO’s and Campus Safety Monitors.
  • School Safety Staff Leader will assist the Building Principal in onboarding new School Safety Officers and Campus Safety Monitors. 
  • School Safety Staff Leader will attend professional learning opportunities and share information with the members of their departments.
  • School Safety Staff Leader will prepare for, and meet with School Safety personnel during professional development days and provide training appropriate to the School Safety personnel (at the start of the school year and during the school year, as needed).
  • School Safety Staff Leader will report out at district wide safety committee meetings and  meet monthly with building principals. 
  • School Safety Staff Leader will provide input to the Building Principal on budget needs.
  • School Safety Staff Leader will be assigned other duties as determined necessary by the Superintendent of Schools

Vacancy for Campus Safety Monitor

Position: Campus Safety Monitor – 1.0 FTE
Location: Cohoes Middle School

See attached Cohoes Civil Service Position Description.

Education and Experience (Required): High school diploma or equivalency; One (1) year experience in working with student-aged individuals in youth service work, recreation, education or any other activity involving service to youth. 
Special Requirements: A valid NYS Driver’s License which must be presented at the time of appointment and maintained during employment. 
Schedule: Work Year – 10-month work year 
Pay Rate: Per CSEA contract 
Start Date: September 1, 2025

Part-time Safety Officer

Full Performance Knowledges, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics: Working knowledge of the practices and procedures necessary to maintain order and insure the protection of life and the security of buildings, grounds and equipment, working knowledge of school district rules and regulations; ability to exercise sound judgment in carrying out duties; ability to maintain good relationships with students and faculty; promotes positive interactions with students to encourage good behavior and decision making; ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions; good powers of observation; courtesy and tact; ability to prepare brief written communications; ability to communicate information orally and by written report; ability to use self-defense, restraint techniques and security equipment as necessary, physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position; honesty and integrity; good judgment; emotional maturity; courage; reliability
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree and two (2) years of experience as a municipal, state or military police officer or correction officer or other equivalent experience; or graduation from high school or possession of a comparable diploma, and three (3) years of experience as a municipal, state or military police officer or correction officer or other equivalent experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience as described above.
Special Requirement for Appointment in School Districts:  Candidates must possess a valid New York State Driver’s license at the time of appointment, and must maintain such license throughout the tenure of employment.

Salary: $25/hour
