CHS names new assistant principal

The Cohoes Board of Education recently approved the appointment of Robert Santarcangelo as assistant principal of Cohoes High School. Mr. Santarcangelo, a familiar face to students, is currently the dean of students and social studies teacher leader, and formerly a longtime social studies teacher. His new position is effective August 1.

“Mr. Santarcangelo brings a wealth of instructional and leadership experience, a passion for learning and a dedication to students that will greatly benefit Cohoes High School,” said Superintendent Peggy O’Shea. “We are excited that he will be expanding his leadership role, working alongside a dynamic high school team.”

Thankful for the opportunity to serve the students and community of Cohoes, Mr. Santarcangelo said that working alongside such a dedicated group of educators has been a remarkable experience. “I am thrilled to be able to continue to work with this amazing team,” he said.

In addition to his daily student management responsibilities as dean, Mr. Santarcangelo will oversee the Instructional Support team to provide targeted support to improve student attendance and behavior; coordinate the after-school assistance program for students; and will head the Positivity Project, which helps students recognize character strengths in themselves and others.

“The high school community is so very excited to welcome Rob Santarcangelo to our administrative team,” said Cohoes High School Principal Laura Tarlo. “Not only has Rob taught here, advised here and served this school community for many years, but he’s a native of the Cohoes community, choosing to serve the city that raised him.

“Rob possesses a tremendous work ethic, as well as the drive and initiative that will continue to make a difference in our school community. His vision for leadership and his actions are synonymous. He ‘walks the walk’ so to speak, and does it with grace and optimism. It is a privilege to work alongside Rob,” she said.

Current Assistant Principal Thomas Kostrzebski, who is set to retire on December 1, 2022, will work along the high school administrative team through the transition. He will also focus on several grant-funded district assignments, including an initiative to improve student attendance.

Please help us in welcoming Mr. Santarcangelo to his new position!
