Van Schaick students ‘believe’ in making a difference

Van Schaick believe room“We believe that we can make a difference.”

That’s the mantra students and staff at Van Schaick Grade School have taken to heart this holiday season.

First, students participated in a Macy’s fundraising campaign, with $1 going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation for each letter to Santa written. Then, each class made a blanket to donate to the Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center.

The difference-making spirit was evident in Van Schaick’s “Believe Room” – a decked-out classroom filled with decorations, trees, lights, music, and Peanuts characters.

“When they walked in, they were in awe,” said Van Schaick Principal Jacqueline DeChiaro. “The students have really been enthusiastic about giving to others and making a difference.”
