School started today and the district is still filling the last of the vacant and new positions for the 2017-18 school year. The successful passage of the proposed budget in May established new positions, as well as some new roles for current staff. Retirements and resignations have also led to some new staff joining the district. The most significant changes and additions are outlined below.
Cohoes High School
Gabrielle White, a current math teacher at CHS, has been appointed career coordinator, serving to connect students with local businesses for job shadowing and internship opportunities. While Ms. White is math certified, she recently finished up coursework to earn the state certification extension for work-based learning.
Brian Beaury is the new part-time athletic director for the 2017-18 school year. Mr. Kostrzebski remains an assistant principal and has moved into the role of CDTA transportation coordinator, overseeing the successful launch and implementation of the new secondary CDTA school busing initiative beginning on the first day of school.
Also at the high school late last spring, the counseling office welcomed Lea Kananis as a third counselor to work with Counselors Megan Beauchamp and Chris Fournier.
Mary Rumsey joins the team as the assistant to Superintendent Jennifer Spring, Ed.D. and Assistant Superintendent Peggy O’Shea. She comes to central office from Harmony Hill Elementary School, where she served as the secretary to Principal Mark Perry. Hiring her replacement at Harmony Hill is currently underway.
In the human resources office, two part time BOCES-contracted employees, Courtney Cossey and Dawn King, will join Tara Dessingue to more effectively manage personnel business and employee benefits.
A new director of facilities was appointed at the August 30 board meeting. Jonathan Heigel will begin in an official capacity on Monday, September 16. He comes from CSX Transportation, based in Selkirk, where he served as a construction engineer for the past 11 years.
At the July 5 Board of Education business meeting, the board voted to extend Superintendent Spring’s contract until June 30, 2020. This was a change to the current contract, which was established as an annual appointment by the Board of Education when she was hired in April, 2015.
