Hundreds turn out for second annual MENtors walk

Hundreds of male mentors, from dads and grandads to older brothers and uncles, turned out for the elementary schools’ second annual MENtors Walk-Your-Child-to-School event this morning.

Abram Lansing and Harmony Hill students and their mentors gathered in Lansing Park and welcomed Albany County District Attorney David Soares, while Van Schaick families joined Mayor Morse in Van Schaick Park.

MENtors walked their children to school and enjoyed breakfast before students made their way to class.

The event celebrates the male mentors who make a positive difference in their child(ren)’s lives. Each of the three schools are entertaining follow-up gatherings to be held throughout the year, and Abram Lansing plans to convene their new “Dad’s Council” at a meeting at 6:30 p.m. on September 25 in the school cafeteria.

Please be on the lookout for more information on upcoming activities for students and their MENtors.

You can watch the brief program at Lansing Park from a recorded Facebook Live video.

Photos from the Lansing Park gathering are posted as Facebook photo gallery on the district’s page. A few photos from Van Schaick were also shared on social media today!

Thanks for joining us and making a difference!
