Girls’ track ends season with strong showing at state meet

The girls’ varsity track team wrapped up the season last weekend by competing in four events at the New York State Track Meet. Zhane Smith took the Division II title in the 400m dash with a personal best time of 56.20. She just missed qualifying for Federations by one spot.

Natalie Ricci qualified for three events and placed fifth in the 100m dash with a time of 12.78. Less than an hour later, she ran the 200m finals and placed fourth with a time of 25.72.

Smith, Ricci, Hannah Ragule and Alexis Stratton also competed in 4 x 400m relay. The girls ran in an extremely competitive race and gave it their all. They placed 14th in New York State.

“Three of the four girls were competing in the states for the first time and they did a really great job of representing Cohoes High School and the greater community,” said Coach Kiera Hovey. “The state meet was the best of the best and we can all walk away knowing they gave it their best effort.”

“No matter what, Coach [Gabrielle] White and I are always proud of them. We had an amazing season,” she added.
