Mission

The mission of the Cohoes City School District, a partnership of schools, parents and the community, is to prepare its students for success in tomorrow’s world.

Vision

The Cohoes City School District strives to be one of the highest achieving school districts in the greater Capital Region.

Goals/Commitments

  • All students will be immersed in rigorous coursework and engaged in learning that promotes curiosity, creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, communication, citizenship and compassion for others.
  • All students will be supported to meet high expectations and graduate college and career ready.
  • All teachers will have the knowledge and skills to expertly deliver instruction and meet the unique needs of all learners.
  • The district will maximize the efficiency of its resources to effectively and innovatively meet the goals and objectives of programs and services.

Promoting Future-Ready

  • Continue to integrate 7Cs into K-12 curriculum
  • Embed digital literacy and citizenship skills into the K-12 curriculum
  • Continue to embed STEAM content K-12
  • Distribute Chromebooks (Smart Schools)
  • Expand internet bandwidth (200 MB)
  • Upgrade wired and wireless networks
  • Update classrooms with interactive touch displays

We believe in a culture of high expectations

Attendance

  • Reduce chronic absenteeism through Every Minute Matters
  • Strengthen early warning system and parent outreach through Assistant Principal for Attendance and parent liaisons

College and Career Readiness

  • Continue to fully implement Future-Ready Pathways
  • Increase participation in college/career aptitude tests (PSAT, SAT, ASVAB)
  • Expand dual-credit and AP offerings
  • Increase student participation in honors, dual-credit and AP classes
  • Complete district’s comprehensive school guidance plan K-12
  • Expand Naviance and its utilization in the college and career process 6-12
  • Develop an individualized student success plan for students in grades 6-12 which focuses on their academic and social emotional needs, career aspirations and goals
  • Continue to expand work-based learning and the connection between course content and careers
  • Increase student achievement and close learning gaps
  • Strengthen academic and behavioral supports and interventions
  • Continue to align curriculum with NGLS
  • Rollout new Learning Standards for the Arts

Supporting our Students

  • Expand systems of support for students’ behavioral health and wellness through Northern Rivers Behavioral Health Center
  • Expand Universal Design for Learning
  • Train pre-K staff in Pyramid Model (Social-Emotional Learning)
  • Continue to analyze data to inform instruction and guide district practices
  • Continue to promote student mentoring
  • Strengthen Restorative Justice practices through AmeriCorps partnership
  • Expand Collaborative Proactive Solutions
  • Grow Mindfulness in the classroom
  • Promote practices that ensure equity and cultural responsiveness

  • Strengthen literacy in secondary content areas through Reading Reconsidered
  • Strengthen trauma-responsive practice

  • Expand Teacher Rounds at the elementary level

Family Engagement

  • Strengthen parent liaison services
  • Continue parent support through workshops

We believe in efficiency of resources

The district will maximize the efficiency of its resources to effectively and innovatively meet the goals and objectives of programs and services.

Operations

  • Ensure student and staff safety through active training drills and increased security staffing
  • Expand Community Eligibility Program to MS
  • Implement longer school day
  • Install new Pre-K playgrounds at all elementary buildings
  • Upgrade Finance Manager (financial software) to Nvision
  • Implement new web-based system for teacher evaluations
  • Continue to monitor CDTA routes and ridership

Facilities

  • Establish capital project advisory committees by building
  • Upgrade cafeteria drinking fountains to promote hydration and reduce environmental waste
