Cohoes Middle School's eighth-grade students were promoted at a ceremony at CMS on Thursday, June 26.

The ceremony began with a processional, played by the CMS Band, and included opening remarks by Courtney Dayter, a member of the Class of 2008. Brittany Rock, Tori Russo and Brianna Tarlo sang the "Star-Spangled Banner." MORE

Showing students what life was like…

Dressed in his uniform, Hunt showed students what a soldier during that time period would have carried with him, what he would have had to eat and talked about how grueling life would have been. MORE

Choosing careers

Professionals from the area visited the middle school to talk to students about their own career paths and to describe their jobs, giving students insight into different professions that they may want to pursue. MORE

Hello? Brazil? It’s Cohoes!

Through the C.A.S.E. (Cohoes After School Enrichment) program at the middle school, Tony Rivera has connected students at the Mentes Brillantes (Brilliant Minds) School in Brazilian children in Campos do Jordão, Sao Paulo, Brazil. MORE

Revolutionary War soldier comes to Cohoes

A Revolutionary War re-enactor visited Mr. Wasserman's Social Studies class at the Cohoes Middle School on Tuesday, Nov. 13. Robert Mulligan gave a talk about the war and what it was like to be a Revolutionary War soldier. He talked about the clothing, weapons, and food the soldiers used during the war. MORE

Social studies students create PowerPoints

Seventh-grade students in David Wasserman's social studies class recently completed a unit on the Revolutionary War. As part of the class, students completed a Power Point presentation on the Revolutionary War Era.

Students chose their own topics, researched them online and in the library and finally, created presentations and showed them to the class.

Math, science and robotics!

As a group, the students follow Power Point slides that demonstrate each step, students are crafting their robots. Once finished, the students will use computer software to program them to travel specific distances or make noises. MORE

Fall begins with the Pumpkin Festival

The festival, which was sponsored by Youth Advisory Board, CMS PASS, Kiwanis Club, Farmers' Market Committee and the City of Cohoes, included games and relay races
fall food and beverages, karaoke, a 50/50 raffle, a magician, face painting, a balloonist, hay rides and a bonfire. MORE

Principal's Roundtable a success

On Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, the Cohoes Middle School held its first Principal's Roundtable. The Roundtable discussion is a way for Mr. Perry, Mr. Martinelli and Mr. Kolakowski to discuss issues with the community in a small setting. The discussions are held once a quarter and include a short agenda from Mr. Perry, as well as time to discuss any topics that community members would like to discuss regarding the middle school.

The sessions last approximately 90 minutes and the administrators supply bagels and coffee for those who stop by. MORE

High Energy Jugglers come to Cohoes Middle School

Photo of High Energy Jugglers performing.On Friday, Sept. 28, the High Energy Jugglers came to Cohoes Middle School to perform for students.

The brothers, who awed the students with their juggling tricks, also talk about achieving their dream of becoming professional jugglers, coping with adversity, building up self esteem and encouragement.

District takes proactive approach to MRSA infection prevention

Recently, there has been some media attention over MRSA infections, a type of infection caused by the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus.

Some cases have been reported in Saratoga County.

District officials are taking a proactive approach to ensure the health of students and staff.

Most importantly, students and staff at each school are being encouraged to wash their hands with soap and water, especially before eating, after using sports facilities or the restroom. In addition, school officials are making sure administrators, teachers, school nurses, coaches and the custodial staff have protective information available for themselves and to share with the school population. The importance of sanitation is being reinforced with the cleaning staff, and special emphasis is being placed on physical education and sports equipment, locker rooms and common surfaces and areas. Seventh graders compete in the Metric Olympics

The students were working on metric measurement and conversion in class, and these ideas were reinforced through the games. MORE

The club is being run by Tony Rivera, one of the founders of the Cohoes Music Hall. MORE
