What is the Parent Portal?

The Parent Portal is a web-based access portal that allows parents to learn about their child's school progress, find out about assignments and view teacher webpages. Middle and high school students also have access to the portal by way of their own username and password.

What kind of information can I find out?

You will be able to see your child's schedule, assignments and their due dates, course times, marking period grades, absences, discipline records and parent/guardian contact information.

What browser does the new Parent Portal work best in?

The new Parent Portal works best in Internet Explorer 6 or greater.

How do I log in to the new Parent Portal?

To log in to the new Parent Portal, parents/guardians first must have a valid e-mail address. If you have not been assigned a login and password, please fill out the Parent Portal Access Form. Once you have your login information, you may want to view the login instructions here.

What do I do if I have lost or forgotten my username/password?

If you need assistance, please e-mail ksantoro@cohoes.org. Please include in the e-mail:

Student(s) name(s)
School attending
Parent username and password
Problem you are experiencing
Contact number if you would like a phone call.

Will my child be able to see his/her assignments and grades online also?

Yes! All students are able to access the site while at school, using a unique username and password. They can also access the site from home, just like parents/guardians.

What if parents are separated or want separate accounts?

Each parent needs to sign up for their own account.

Will I be able to see grades received on assignments?

Yes! When a teacher updates their grade book, the changes will be reflected in the Parent Portal.

Can I just take those assignment grades and figure out what my child cumulative grade is for the marking period?

No! Teachers have a weighted grading system for their class assignments and activities. For example, homework may be 25 percent of a grade, tests may be 50 percent, participation 15 percent and so on. In this example, if your child received a 100 percent on a homework assignment, that may only be worth 25 percent of their total grade.

What can I do if I see my child has a low grade on an assignment?

Talk to your child about the assignment. Contact his or her teacher to talk. Find out what the teacher is seeing in your child's work. Work out a strategy with both the teacher and student to get back on track.

While I’m logged in to the Parent Portal, can I e-mail a teacher?

Yes. Teacher e-mails can be found on individual teacher pages in the portal. If you are having difficulty, visit the district's staff directory here.
