attend scholars' recognition dinner for the sixth time
At
the Scholars' Recognition Dinner on May 7 Cohoes High School
Class of 2008 Valedictorian Meagan Mnich will be recognized.
As part of the dinner, Mnich chose CHS science
teacher Dr. Cheryl Isles to be honored as a teacher that has had
a significant and beneficial impact on her.
"She is a wonderful student," Isles said of
Mnich, who she has had as an independent study student in the
science research program for the past three years.
The program, which is part of a business
education partnership formed by the School of Education at the
University at Albany, State University of New York, is intended
to honor outstanding scholastic achievement by members of the
graduating classes of local schools, as well as a teacher chosen
by each students.
Mnich, who plans to attend Cornell University in
the fall where she will study environmental science, is a member
of the National Honor Society, President of Student Council,
President of the Science Club and a member of the French Club.
She won third place honors at the University at Albany's Eastern
Section Junior Sciences and Humanities Symposium in the category
of General Biology & Environmental Science.
Isles, who has been a teacher in Cohoes for 22
years, has been chosen by six previous students to be
recognized. In nominating Isles to attend with her, Mnich wrote,
"Dr. Isles' passion for knowledge and research is contagious.
Her dedication to science and success has sparked my interest in
pursuing a science-related career."
