Cohoes High School seniors win state bowling championship

Photo of NYS USBC Champions.Cohoes High School seniors Paul and Joe Peterson won first place the New York State Bowling Championship, held in Syracuse, the weekend of May 4-5. Their win was the first time a Cohoes team won.

Their team, which included two other individuals who are not from Cohoes High School, qualified in April to play for the state championship in a field of 25,000 teams who tried to qualify.

The Petersons and their team competed against 20 of the best teams in the state in Class A, and took home the title of New York State USBC Champions. The team received a scholarship for $1,000.

Paul and Joe Peterson have played on the Cohoes High School bowling team under Cohoes High School teacher and coach Mr. Wilhelm for the past four years. They have also bowled at the Cohoes Bowling Arena since they were five years old.

In addition to the team award, Joe also came away with an individual award. He had the highest "Hi Series Scratch," bowling an amazing 811 for three games. He just missed two perfect 300 games.
