Cohoes City School District Superintendent
Charles S. Dedrick was recently honored with an Appreciation
Award by The New York State Council of School Superintendents (NYSCOSS).
The Award, which recognizes Dedrick's service and leadership,
was presented at the organization's Mid-Winter Conference on
Jan. 13, 2008.
Dedrick has been an active member in NYSCOSS,
and the award is a special one as it was given to him on behalf
of his colleagues. He was recognized for his exemplary service,
commitment as an emeritus faculty member of the Superintendents'
Academy, leadership and guidance to new and aspiring
superintendents, and for his contributions to the organization's
Legislative Committee. Only a select few of the approximately
700 superintendents in New York State are given the award each
year.
"I am honored that my colleagues would recognize me with this
award," Dedrick said. "Working with NYSCOSS is an important way
that superintendents across the state can help ensure New York
children continue to receive the best education possible and I
am pleased that I can be involved with such a valuable
organization."
NYSCOSS is a professional organization of school district
leaders which provides member services, advocates sound
educational policy and asserts the leadership role of
superintendents. The Appreciation Award is presented to active
NYSCOSS members who are active not only in the field but also
highly involved with the Council. The recipients are selected by
the Distinguished Service Committee. Massena Central Schools
Superintendent Douglas Huntley and Pittsford Central Schools
Superintendent Mary Alice Price also received the award this
year.
