Cohoes player sets Section
II and national record
Tuesday,
Jan. 7 was a night for the record books for Cohoes High School
girls' basketball senior guard Courtney Galuski.
Galuski set a Section II record for the most
three-point shots in a game. She
hit 15 three-point goals, leading Cohoes to a 91-36 win over Schalmont on
her team's home turf.
Not only did Galuski's shot mean a new Section
II record, her 15 three-pointers were enough to tie the national
record for the most three-pointers in one game, according to the
National Federation of State High School Association's High
School Sports Record Book. Galuski's 15
points ties three other high school girls.
The state new record wipes away the previous one of nine
three-pointers, set by a Tamarac player in 2005. It is not only
a Colonial Council record for three-pointers, but a school
record for the most points in one game.
"She is a great basketball player," said Coach Dan Hytko. "I
knew from the start that she was going to be 'on' and we just
let it happen."
Hytko
said he wasn't completely sure of the record before the game
and it wasn't something he was focusing on. However when he realized
she might be in range to break the record, it became exciting.
Galuski, who is also a star pitcher for the school's softball
team, said she is considering playing softball in college.
