Fourth Annual PBIS Kick-off & Character Education Block Party a sunny success!

Sept. 12, 2011 - Students at Van Schaick Grade School kicked off the start of a new school year by renewing their commitment to the three Bee's: be(e) safe, be(e)respectful and be(e)responsible in school. They did so with the help of some new pals from the high school and some friendly and familiar faces from the Cohoes community.

Early in the day, students and staff reviewed and practiced the behavioral expectations in various settings throughout the school (cafeteria, hallway, bathroom, playground, etc.), as part of the school's Positive Behavioral Intervention & Supports (PBIS) Program.

In the afternoon, students and their families enjoyed a Character Education Block Party to celebrate the importance of character education in school, at home and in the community. Student athletes from Cohoes High School volunteered their time and effort to reinforce  the six pillars of character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, Citizenship.

Also at the school to lend a hand were Mayor John T. McDonald III; area business leaders; members of the Cohoes Police Department's Canine Unit, and members of the Cohoes Fire Department.

The school also enjoyed a visit from an ice cream truck, donated by Capital Communications Credit Union and danced to the music of DJ Krazy Keith, also known as Mr. Keith Hancock, a Van Schaick parent who very generously filled in at the last minute to provide rockin' entertainment to hundreds of Block Party attendees.
