October
27, 2010 - The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation visited
classrooms last week to teach students about Type 1 and Type 2
Diabetes, healthy eating habits and exercise. The children were
challenged to help find a cure for diabetes by raising funds for
research. Students collected pledges by selling colorful paper
sneakers.
On Tuesday, Oct. 19, during Character COUNTS! Week in the Cohoes City Schools, students, staff and parents participated in a Walk to Cure Diabetes around the Van Schaick Pond, chanting “We Support, Juvenile Diabetes!” to raise awareness about the disease. The school raised $431 to help find a cure. Fifth grader, Bailey Kufel, collected the most donations, raising $100.
