Sept.
28, 2010 - Step Afrika! wowed students and staff with their fast,
rhythmic movements, and exposed some students to a dance form they may
not have seen before.
The group, based in the Washington, D.C., area, came to Cohoes through the University at Albany's Performing Arts Center.
The small group of dancers gave a dynamic performance that highlighted the rhythm, physicality and history of stepping, and culminated in a group activity that got students on their feet.
The performers incorporated world traditions, such as the lively South African gumboot dance, and taught the students new words and terminology related to stepping.
