Nov. 22, 2010 – After months of careful discussion, the Cohoes City School District Board of Education approved it goals for the school year, with the hope that this vision and action steps will continue to move the district and its students forward academically and as global citizens.
The plan, which was unanimously approved at the board’s Nov. 17 meeting, is as follows:
The Cohoes City School District is committed to fostering a culture of ownership and respect, which engages the entire school community in developing and implementing an action plan to improve our schools.
The Board of Education has outlined the following tasks in addition to its goal statement:
• Establish Student BOE Advisory Plans from each building
• Articulate expectations regarding information flow to the BOE.
Include administrator’s activities reports.
• Establish a budget calendar and categories for review with a
zero-based development approach.
• Establish expectations for school/teacher to parent Internet
communications.
• Develop a BOE procedure/policy to justify the filling of any
vacancy.
• Develop a transition strategy for high-need students entering high
school.
• Improve the phone system at each building to accommodate emergency
or urgent calls where voicemail is not appropriate.
"As a board, we have taken time to look at our school district's
needs and the needs of the community," said President of the Board
of Education Anne Marie Hume. "We believe our over-arching goal and
the action steps we have set out are important steps to our
improvement and growth."
