Register NOW for SUMMER college-level courses through HVCC

May 24, 2011- CHS students finishing their sophomore or junior years this spring can now register for college-level courses offered at Troy High School this summer. Students can choose from four College in the High School courses, including: Macroeconomics, Creative Writing, Precalculus and American National Government.

College in the High School courses cost $45 per credit hour and are taught by college faculty or high school teachers who are Hudson Valley adjunct faculty. Students will earn Hudson Valley credit for the courses which are transferable to most four-year colleges and universities.

Classes run for six weeks, from Tuesday, July 5 through Friday, Aug. 12, 2011. Classes will run five days a week except for Creative Writing: Short Fiction, which will run three days a week. The deadline to register and pay for courses is Friday, June 24.

College in the High School courses are also being offered this summer at Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk high school and Rensselaer High School.

ECON 100 - Principles of Macroeconomics (3 credit hours)
This course examines the evolution of economic theory and practice, the structure and functions of the free enterprise system, national income accounting, and fiscal and monetary policy, and their effects on economic policy.
1st Session: 8 - 9:20 a.m.
2nd Session: 9:30 - 10:50 a.m.

ENGL 151 - Creative Writing: Short Fiction (3 credit hours)
Offers students a basic forum in which to explore the processes and principles by which short fiction is created. Emphasis is placed on the development of freedom and precision of artistic expression in and through the creation of original student manuscripts. Examples of both traditional and contemporary fiction will be discussed and analyzed.
11 a.m. – 1:20 p.m. (M/W/F only)

MATH 160 - Precalculus (4 credit hours)
For students who need further preparation before beginning the calculus mathematic sequence. A modern approach to the basic algebraic operations, elementary functions, inequalities, complex numbers, systems of equations, and exponential, logarithmic and trigonometry functions with applications.
1st Session: 8:30 - 10:20 a.m.
2nd Session: 11 a.m. - 12:50 p.m.

POLS 105 - American National Government (3 credit hours)
An in-depth examination of the principles, procedures, institutions and theories of American National Government.
1st Session: 8 - 9:20 a.m.
2nd Session: 9:30 - 10:50 a.m.
