May
10, 2011 — More than 900 books were collected as Harmony Hill
students participated in the first annual Book Swap, sponsored by
the PBIS/Character Education Committee as part of Earth Week. During
the weeks of April 4 and 11, students brought books from home that
they had already read to Mrs. Ducharme’s fifth grade classroom. The
books were donated to the Book Swap. The students took care of
counting the books and distributing coupons: one for every book a
student brought donated.
After the books were sorted and arranged, students could shop and redeem their coupons during the Book Swap. “The Book Swap was a huge success," said Mrs. Kiera Hovey, who was instrumental in arranging the Book Swap. "It was a great way to promote reading and help change up a student’s library of books at home.
"We also were able to offer books to students who weren’t able to bring in books from home," added Hovey. "That way, every student received a 'recycled' book during our Earth Week celebration.”
