Mar. 2011 - Question: what do pop music's
one-hit-wonders, Milli Vanilli, and the students of Van Schaick Grade
School have in common? Answer: they are experts at lip synching.
On March 4, 2011, the students of Van Schaick Grade School celebrated the end of the 2nd trimester with their Tiger Pride Party. Students that had not received any disciplinary referrals were invited to participate in a "lip dub" to the song “Firework” by Katy Perry. A lip dub combines lip synching and audio dubbing to make a music video.
During filming, students dressed in blue and gold and used props to enhance the music video. Later that day, students were invited to the gym for the premiere of Van Schaick Grade School’s very first music video. Refreshments were served as students and staff enjoyed the debut.
Fourth grade students Maggie and Brendan Roby
joined Principal Jacqueline DeChiaro in presenting the video to the
community at a
meeting of the Cohoes Board of Education on March 16.

Van Schaick Principal Jacqueline DeChiaro introduces fourth-grade students Brendan and Maggie Roby to the audience attending the March 16 meeting of the Board of Education. Mrs. Dechiaro and the students introduced the school's lip dub video, set to the tune of Katy Perry's "Firework".
Special thanks to Mark Charbonneau for his help with the taping and editing.
