Superintendent, Board of Education members take school funding concerns to Capitol

June 3, 2011—  Superintendent Bob Libby, Cohoes Board of Education Vice President Mark Pascale, and new board member Laurie Rizzo traveled to the state Capitol this week to meet with representatives Sen. Neil Breslin and Assemblyman Ron Canestrari to discuss concerns about aid to education and an impending property tax cap.

The group met with each to discuss the potential impact of Assembly Bill 7916 -- the subject of a reported three-way agreement on a property tax cap for local governments and school districts -- on the Cohoes City School District. While all agreed on the importance of addressing property taxes, Superintendent Libby and the board members underscored the detrimental nature of a bill that delivers little or no relief from spiralling costs of health care, pensions and other mandated costs.
