Remsen Street businesses welcome tiny tourists

July 7, 2011 - Cohoes business owners rolled out the welcome mat for children from the district's Universal Pre-Kindergarten program during the final week of school, as the children ventured out with their teachers to learn about the community, its goods and services.

Each child carried a "Cohoes Passport," which business owners would stamp at each stop along the city tour. Among the businesses the children visited were: Shelly’s Cut and Curl, Softex, Sticky Fingers Gourmet Apples, Miron's, Beau Knits, Harmony Hill Marketplace, The Chop Shop, The Bike Shop, and Marra’s Pharmacy. The students were also treated to a tour of Cohoes Music Hall and Cohoes City Hall.

In addition to the students who comprise the four district UPK classrooms, the four-year-old class from Cohoes Community Center also took part in the city discovery tour. A total of 89 students took part in this year's program.
