
Feb. 11 - With his audacious recitation of the character Shylock from The Merchant of Venice, Matthew Gariepy took top honors at the 27th Annual CHS Shakespeare Competion, held this week in the high school cafeteria. It was Mr. Gariepy's second consecutive win.
The competition was held on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 during second period. Eleven contestants, ranging from grades 9 to 12, participated in the fierce and tightly scored verbal match. Judges for the event included: Mrs. Jensen (Department Chair); Ms. Gibson (ELA Teacher); and, Ms. Arnold (ELA Teacher). Mrs. Leach took on the integral role of photographer for the event.
Other top finishers included: Joseph Sorel, who captured his audience with his recitation of Duke Orsino from 12th Night; Valerie Kisselback took third place with her humorous performance of Viola from 12th Night; Ryan Goergen took an honorable fourth place.
With his win, Matthew Gariepy will once again
compete in the regional competition at the William K. Sanford Town
Library, 629 Albany-Shaker Road, Loudonville, New York on Sunday,
February 13, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. All participants should be commended
for their performances.
