Dec. 15, 2010 - CHS senior Amanda Gumprecht recently won first place
in the Times Union contest, "In Your Own Shoes," in the 3-D category.
The newspaper asked Capital Region students to express something about themselves by designing their own art shoes, within a two-dimensional drawing or a three-dimensional structure.

The paper received more than 40 entries, which were sent to the Albany Institute, where they were judged by Michael Boroniec, one of the artists with shoes on display as part of the "Perfect Fit" exhibition, and Amy Williams, president of the Art Center of the Capital Region.
The judges were very impressed by all the submissions, but in the end had to make some hard choices.
They picked five winners, an overall 2-D winner, an overall 3-D winner, and one winner from each of the grade categories: elementary, middle and high school.
The winners received a gift card to Arlene's Artist Materials from the Times Union, a gift card to the Albany Institute gift shop, courtesy of the institute, and their work was on display at the Albany Institute.
Gumprecht said this about her artwork:
Prize: 3-D Winner, "Shoe-t Out"
Statement: "I chose to design my flashy high-heeled shoe as a war zone, because of past wars and the Iraq war. I have friends and family in the Iraq war, so this shoe has personal meaning to me. I enjoyed creating my shoe at war, doing this made me appreciate war to a higher level."
