Dec.
5, 2010 - As part of their year-long focus on The Lion King, all
students at Abram Lansing Elementary School made masks, working with
artist Chris Moran. The masks will eventually be hung at Proctor's
Theatre for the upcoming performances of The Lion King.
The multi-class project gave students an opportunity to learn about the masks and costumes used in The Lion King. Each class made masks of a different animals, including lions, tigers and birds.
During their first work session with Moran, students used materials such as cardboard and old egg cartons to build three-dimensional faces. After that, they used paper Mache to cover the faces. In a later class, they painted and decorated the masks.
The masks were placed in the school’s display cases, and will be moved to Proctor’s later this school year.
