Dec. 1, 2010 – The Cohoes City School District football program is the recipient of a $1,000 donation from Joel DeNooyer & DeNooyer Chevrolet, which it intends to use to create a local youth football program in the City of Cohoes.
"This grant will help us grow our district's program by giving students a chance to participate and learn football skills at a younger age," said Cohoes Coach James Ducharme.
The auto dealership DeNooyer Chevrolet sought applications in August, asking how the money could be used to better a school program.
Ducharme submitted a letter requesting the donation, with the intention of using it towards portable lights or starting a youth flag football league in the city. Although it ended up not being possible get the portable lights for the last home game of the season, it will be possible to start a local youth football program in the City of Cohoes.
The Cohoes Football program will be setting up the league to run next fall. The first year it is anticipated that it will be open to students in grades 4-6, with the hope to expand the league every year afterwards.
