August 22, 2011 - On Wednesday, August 24th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., elementary school students from Cohoes can pick up free school supplies made available through a grant secured by the Cohoes Waterford Elks #1317 and the individual efforts of several Lodge members.
The event will take place at Cohoes-Waterford Elks on Wednesday, August 24 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Supplies will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The local Elks Lodge applied for and was awarded a Promise Grant from the Elks National Foundation, which is available to a Lodge promising to host a youth event. The group chose to offer free school supplies to families of students in the Cohoes City School District, which serves a high number of families in need.
“This grant allows us the opportunity to build the character and competence of our local youth,” said Regina Hogan, Past Exalted Ruler of the Cohoes-Waterford Elks. “We are proud to reach out to our communities through charitable events such as this that promote our motto of Elks Care and Elks Share.”
