Students get a glimpse of Cohoes Middle School before school starts
Aug. 30, 2010 - On Friday, Aug. 27 and Saturday, Aug. 28 Cohoes Middle School held it first "CMS Open Doors" program. This program is intended to let all incoming sixth graders and their families come into the Middle School and:
- Tour the building and walk their schedule,
- Try out their lockers and learn how to open them (receive locker training),
- Bring in their supplies and load up their lockers and
- Ask the administration any questions they may have leading up to their first day in the Middle School.
This program is intended to help ease the transition and possible anxiety that many students and families experience when moving from fifth to sixth grade. Approximately 85 students/families walked the school, tried out their lockers (several times!), saw pictures of their future teachers, walked their schedule and asked many relevant and important questions to the administration.
CMS will continue this program next year for all incoming sixth-grade students and we will look to expand it to all new middle school students to the district.
