April 5, 2011 — Students at Harmony Hill
School will really go green on Monday, April 11, as the school
begins Earth Week. The students are being asked to wear a different
colored shirt each day during the week to show support for
earth-friendly activities in the classrooms. For Monday, it's green;
Tuesday, blue; Wednesday, yellow; Thursday, orange/red; and on
Friday, students are asked to wear any color or a shirt with an
animal or earth-friendly message.
Also, the third grade bottle brigade is calling on parents and staff from throughout the district to contribute to their ongoing can and bottle drive. Since November, the third graders have been busy collecting thousands of bottle and cans that have been donated to the Mohawk Hudson River Humane Society. The organization receives eight cents per returnable bottle/can, three cents more than the standard five cents paid to consumers.
Parents and staff are encouraged to rinse their recyclable/returnable bottles and cans and bring them to Harmony Hill School anytime during the week of April 11-14. For safety reasons, it is also important to separate glass from plastic or aluminum cans.
