Cohoes
High School students in the Economics and Participation in
Government classes had a chance to run the City of Cohoes—just for
the day.
Through Student Government Day, a longstanding tradition in the city, several students have an opportunity to shadow city employees and then participate in a mock Common Council meeting on Thursday, May 13.
"This is one of the highlights of the year," said teacher John Wilhelm. "It's a great opportunity for our students to see their government in action and learn about the process."
Students followed many different people in the city hall, including
the mayor, tax collector, the city engineer and the town clerk, as
well as police officers and the city attorney.
During the mock meeting, students discussed whether the city should establish a curfew for everyone under the age of 18.
