Budget passes in revote

Following a budget revote on Tuesday, June 15, the Cohoes City School District 2010-11 budget passed with 646 votes in favor and 487 opposed.

The revised budget proposal was $37,574,628, and reduced spending by $192,465 from the original budget that voters rejected in May. This budget carries a tax rate increase of 1.5 percent, or $32.82 per $1,000 of taxable assessed value. The current rate is $32.33 per $1,000 of taxable assessed value. The defeated budget called for a tax rate increase of 3 percent.

"We'd like to thank our voters for their support," said Superintendent of Schools Robert K. Libby. "We are glad that we could create a budget that our community supports."

Cuts in the revised budget (Totaling $192,465) include:
Overtime/substitutes for buildings and grounds staff = $25,000
Equipment = $26,621
Software = $100,000
Freshman basketball team = $6,814
2 full-time aides = $34,030
