District surveys seek input from students

June 2010 - Dear parents/guardians,

To assist us in continuously improving our programs and schools, the district will be administering two surveys to students before the end of the school year.

One is a district survey, developed in collaboration with Capital Region BOCES. It will be administered to students in Grade 4 and higher, as well as to teachers, support staff and parents. Building-level teams and administrators will use the data for planning purposes.

The second survey will be administered in cooperation with two professors from the State University at Albany to all teachers, as well as students in Grade 3 and higher. The survey responses will help the researchers understand what type of information is useful in decision-making, and how that information is used.

This survey will ask students questions about their perceptions of their school, neighborhood and family and peer relationships. The results will be used to develop school improvement plans, and the effectiveness of the plans will be monitored over time by the SUNY researchers.

Both surveys will be completed anonymously and online during the school day.

If you do not want your child to participate in the survey, please inform your child's school principal by the date they have specified. You should have received a letter from your child's principal.
