Harmony Hill School kicks off
a yearlong 20th anniversary celebration
If you had to pick only one item, what would you
choose to commemorate the year 2007? Students and staff at
Harmony Hill School have been working to answer that question as
they prepare to fill a time capsule for the school's 20th
anniversary celebration.
The yearlong anniversary celebration kicked
off on Friday, Sept. 28, with guest performers, special
activities and a community dance in the evening.
"Twenty years is a milestone for Harmony Hill,"
said Principal Kitty Summers. "We are excited to celebrate 20
years of providing an excellent education for our students."
At the kickoff assembly various city and school
officials attended, including the Superintendent of Schools
Charles Dedrick, Cohoes Mayor John McDonald and retired Harmony
Hill principals and teachers.
At the assembly, a time capsule created for the
school’s 10th anniversary in 1997 was opened and teachers who
have been at the school since its opening were recognized, as
well as the past principals.
That afternoon, the High Energy Jugglers will
perform for students and new items will be added to the time
capsule before it is sealed.
Throughout the year, students are celebrating
the anniversary by wearing their Harmony Hill t-shirts on
designated spirit days and participating in contests, such as
matching their teachers with their photos from 20 years ago. |
