Red Ribbon Week at Cohoes Middle School

Photo of Jeeter, the Cohoes Police Department dog.In celebration of Red Ribbon Week, Student Council coordinated Red Ribbon Day at Cohoes Middle School on Oct. 23.

At grade-level assemblies held throughout the day, various speakers talked to students about the importance of being alcohol free.

Speaker Darnell Michaels from Rensselaer County gave a presentation and lead a discussion about the effects of alcohol upon the body and responsible legal drinking.

The highlight of the presentations was Jeeter, the Cohoes City Police Department's police dog - a 16-month-old Belgium Shepherd. His handler explained Jeeter's training and what he does on a daily basis. He is not only a drug-sniffing dog, but he is trained in search and rescue, retrieving lost articles and getting the bad guy. Jeeter demonstrated how he searches for drugs.
