Red Ribbon Week at Cohoes
Middle School
In
celebration of Red Ribbon Week, Student Council coordinated Red
Ribbon Day at Cohoes Middle School on Oct. 23.
At grade-level assemblies held throughout the
day, various speakers talked to students about the importance of
being alcohol free.
Speaker Darnell Michaels from Rensselaer County
gave a presentation and lead a discussion about the effects of
alcohol upon the body and responsible legal drinking.
The highlight of the presentations was Jeeter,
the Cohoes City Police Department's police dog - a 16-month-old
Belgium Shepherd. His handler explained Jeeter's training and
what he does on a daily basis. He is not only a drug-sniffing
dog, but he is trained in search and rescue, retrieving lost
articles and getting the bad guy. Jeeter demonstrated how he
searches for drugs.
