CHS ring lost for 32 years—and then found
Tinker Young thought he lost his Cohoes High
School Class of 1975 ring in Okinawa, Japan.
But more than 30 years later he was shocked to find out it had
shown up in the pocket of a retired Rensselaer police detective.
"My brother was flabbergasted," said Dorothy Young, William
"Tinker" Young's sister, and an aide at Harmony Hill School.
Young, 51, a bus driver who lives in Rotterdam, met the retired
policeman at a Price Chopper in Guilderland last week and
confirmed the ring was his.
The only time he remembers visiting Rensselaer was to go to the
bar, Hullabaloo, he told his sister.
The ring had tape wrapped around it, as if a girl had worn it,
but Tinker says he doesn't remember giving it to anyone in
particular.
Young says her brother and the detective went out to lunch after
Tinker claimed the ring, and made plans to get together again in
the future.
"It's nice that somebody was honest enough to think that someone
might want their ring back," Young said.
