Focusing on
reading at Van Schaick Grade School
During
the month of March, Van Schaick Grade School students and their
families are focusing on reading.
March is considered Parents as Reading Partners (PARP) month at
the school.
To celebrate, students have been participating
in activities each week that highlight reading. For example,
earlier in the month, different grades read to each other and
the Cat in the Hat paid a visit.
All month long, students are keeping track of
how much they read at home to earn stamps on their "toll
tickets." The tickets are part of the month's these, "Take a
Reading Road Trip."
Recently,
John Wilhelm, a well-traveled history teacher at Cohoes High
School spoke to students about his adventures during an
assembly. He showed pictures of the many areas he has traveled
to, such as Egypt, Hawaii, London and New Orleans.
To prepare for his visit, students thought of a
favorite place they had visited or a place that they would like
to visit. After his presentation, students wrote about that
topic.
In addition, a Family Fun Night and a Book Fair
will be held at Van Schaick in March.
