Odyssey of the Mind team finishes third during their first-ever competition

The Cohoes Middle School Odyssey of the Mind team placed third, out of 7 strong teams in the division, in their first-ever Odyssey of The Mind competition at Mohonasen High School on Saturday, March 1. More than 82 school districts were represented at this year's competition, a creative problem-solving event that emphasizes teamwork.

The five Cohoes competitors, Logan Atchinson, Vanessa Reamer, Paige Genito, Alycia Gagnon, as well as her fifth-grade sister Patricia Gagnon, were given high praise by all the judges for their dramatic representation of the "The Eccentrics" problem with their solution for a Biospheric problem -- a martian that stopped the Earth's rotation with her "universal remote."

The team is now looking forward to a few exhibitions of their skit in the near future that will encourage more participation in this project-based competition in the years to come.

Middle school principal Mark Perry and Marilyn Case were the team's coaches.
